The International Wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport Lagos
was raided yesterday night by armed robbers who made away with a huge amount of
foreign currencies from some bureau-de-change operators at nation’s premier
gateway. Two policemen were killed in the attack.
According to eyewitnesses, the robbers, about 10 of them, got to the airport some few minutes to 9p.m
and headed for the BDC operators centre near the car park and started shooting
sporadically There was an exchange of gun fire between the robbers and
the policemen attached to the airport which lasted for about 30 minutes resulting
in the death of two policemen and one of the robbers. Normal operations and
flight have not been affected by the incident.
The security at the airport needs to be tightened, the BDC
operators were robbed last year also.
