OVER 20 STUDENTS OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, MUBI, ADAMANWA STATE KILLED

At least 20 students of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamawa State, northeast Nigeria, were killed  last night in what seems to be a disagreement between two rival groups over the election of their union leaders. Eyewitnesses said trouble started around 2p.m on Monday when the two rival groups accused each other of revealing the source of their arms and ammunition to the Joint Military Task Force following the raid by the Task Force during which they discovered large arms cache in the area about two weeks ago.

However, around 9 p.m. yesterday at Anwan Samiya area, a student dominated settlement located close to the institution, the two groups engaged each other in a bloody shoot-out from 9 p.m. till the early hours of today. When the sound of gun shots subsided this morning, at least 20 students were found dead while several others were seriously injured and are receiving treatment at Mubi General Hospital.

US EMBASSY DICRIMINATES AGAINST PREGNANT WOMEN

According to a report by PUNCH;

The United States’ embassy in Nigeria seems to have perfected the art of denying well-meaning and legitimate non-immigrant Nigerian mothers visa for reasons best known to it. At the end of visa interview sessions, what one hears is, ‘’You are not qualified at this time’’! Women of child-bearing age are asked questions such as: Are you pregnant at this time? How many children do you have? Do you plan to have more children? And if the response to any of these questions is in the affirmative, then the next set of questions may be: Do you plan to have the baby in America? Can you afford to pay the medical bills? You are probably asked to show evidence and even after showing evidence you are told mostly that you do not qualify at this time or that you should reapply after having your baby.

MAN CHAINS SON AND LEAVES HIM TO DIE IN THE BUSH

A man simply known as Alhaji by his fellow Okada riders, who hails from the Igala community of Kogi chained his son and left him in the bush for three days without food or water. He told his neighbours that his son had been missing for the past three days. His neighbours oblivious of the fact that he knew the whereabouts of his son joined him in the search.
However, he ran out of luck when the security men from the community discovered the boy crying in the bush near a river in Okpuno Awka in the morning on the 29th September, 2012  during the sanitation exercise. His legs were bound in chains and locked with a padlock. The little boy is the only child from his former wife who is no longer living with him.

Some people just don't deserve to have kids.

BOKO HARAM THREATENS WIVES OF GOVERMENT OFFICIALS

The terrorist group, Boko Haram, has threatened the wives of Nigerian security agents and government officials in a new video posted on you tube by the leader of the radical Islamist sect, Abubakar Shekau, in Hausa language. He claimed the nation's military and security agencies have seized 7 women who are wives of Boko Haram members and that the women had been raped by the captors.

He also denied that his group is in any peace talks to end the violence that has killed hundreds in the country and also denied claims that the spokesman for the sect Abul Qaqa had been killed by Nigeria's military. He said the group would continue to "follow our religion" and carry out attacks in Nigeria's predominantly Muslim north.  In the eight-minute message titled “Message to the World, Shekau said,

”This message is for those in authority (emirs, governors, and government officials) who have been conspiring against us, against our commitment and worship to Allah. Wallahi you have no resting place again and no resting time again, either we are here or we are not"

76,000 ANAMBRA FLOOD VICTIMS EVACUATED

Over 76,000 victims of the devastating floods that hit about 200 communities in five local government areas of Anambra State are being evacuated from their homes to relief camps in Onitsha and Nteje.
The evacuation came after two persons, a woman and a boy, died at Ogbaru in the flood that submerged their homes on Sunday night.
The Governor of  Anambra State, Peter Obi, abandoned the Independence anniversary parade in Awka and led the evacuation exercise on Monday in  Ogbaru Local Government Area whose communities are the hardest hit in the flooding that has crippled communication and economic activities in the communities.
Many of the victims were reluctant to move due to their attachment to their ancestral homes.

The situation is getting beyond what the state government alone can handle, personnel of the Navy, Army, Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, the Peace Corps and other voluntary agencies were involved  in the exercise.
