NATIONWIDE FLOOD DISASTER IS BEYOND FG, INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO ASSIST- JONATHAN

President Jonathan said the management of the flood ravaging parts of the country and the rehabilitation of the victims nationwide is beyond what the Federal Government and the affected states can handle and that some international agencies have showed interest in providing support for the victims till the floods subside. He described the floods as the worst in the history of Nigeria and that the disaster has taught the government and the people a lesson.

The prevent future occurrence, the government will construct major embankments on the River Benue to keep off flood water, and expedite action on the Kasambilla Dam, due to be completed in 2014, in order to absorb excess water that would be released into the river in the future.

According to the Nigerian Red Cross Society.  an estimated 130,000 people across the federation have been affected.

POLICE KILLS SALES GIRL IN ABUJA

Policemen in Abuja yesterday shot and killed a 20-year old sales girl called Lucy in Apo area. She was hit in the chest by bullets fired into a photography shop where she worked as a sales girl while three other people sustained gunshot injuries when policemen from the FCT Police Command fired bullets indiscriminately in an attempt to enforce the demolition order of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council.

 Around 7a.m yesterday, officials of Development Control Department stormed the area with policemen to demolish illegal structures but residents and indigenes, who felt that the government had no right to demolish their houses when the case was still in court and they were yet to be resettled, resisted the operation.

The policemen shot indiscriminately to control the residents and bullets penetrated into one of the shops and Lucy was hit in the chest. She was rushed to Garki Hospital, but she was confirmed dead on arrival. Her body has been deposited in the mortuary. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu said “We are not sure what took our men there or what led to the shooting, it’s still a matter for investigation,” he said.

That is all they say, 'we will investigate'. No police has ever been held accountable for the innocent lives they've taken. When will this stop, when will we see police and not fear for our lives, when will they begin to pay for wasting the lives of our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, children, lives they ought to be protecting, when, when...

ACTRESS ACCUSES DINO MELAYE OF INFECTING HER WITH SYPHILIS

The drama with Dino Melaye, Bisi Ibidapo Obe's alleged baby daddy has taken a new turn. This time, acording to BON, another upcoming Yoruba actress is accusing the Honorable of infecting her with syphilis, a sexually transmitted disease and that he his a potential carrier of HIV.

The United Nations designated October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child in an effort to start a global conversation about the devastating effects of early marriages, which are currently practiced in more than 50 developing countries. To mark the occasion and draw attention to the problem of child brides, photojournalist Stephanie Sinclair teamed up with National Geograpic to create  a series of heart-breaking photos depicting girls as young as five years old being married off to middle-aged men in countries like Yemen, India and Ethiopia.

TOYOTA RECALLS 7.4MILLION VEHICLES

Toyota has recalled about 7.4 million vehicles worldwide to fix power window switches that can stick, smoke and potentially cause a fire. Toyota made the announcement on Wednesday, 10th October, 2012 after several complaints of smoking, overheating or small fires from the window switches, but no report of major injuries from the problem. This is the largest recall by any automaker since 1996.

The recall  involves inspecting and if necessary replacing the driver's side power window switch because the combination of wear that causes the switches to get sticky over time and the grease applied to the switches when they are built can combine to cause overheating.

WHITNEY HOUSTON'S 19 YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER ENGAGED

Whitney Housten's only child, Bobbi Kristina, is planning to marry her controversial boyfriend, 22-year-old Nick Gordon. The 19-year-old announced her engagement in a promo for "The Houstons: On Our Own" — the reality show about how Whitney Houston's family has been coping after her death.

Bobbi Kristina's relationship with Gordon who Whitney took in as a teenager and raised as her son alongside Bobbi, began after Whitney's death. Her family is uncomfortable that the relationship has turned romantic.

Meanwhile, last month the Houston family filed legal papers asking a Georgia judge to modify the existing terms of the late singing superstar's will in which Bobbi Kristina is the sole beneficiary, to prevent anyone from trying to take advantage of her. 

I don't trust these people jor, all these drama might be for ratings for the upcoming reality show "The Houstons: On Our Own" which  will premiere on Wednesday, October 24.

EX-MINSTER'S SON DIES IN POWER BIKE ACCIDENT

The first son of ex-Minister of Power and Steel, Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, Mohammed died in a power bike accident on October 1 on his way to Abuja after participating at a bikers’ convention in Uyo, Akwa Ibom. 

He instructed his driver to drive along while he rode on his power bike. The 34-year-old was hit by a trailer from behind and  was crushed by an oncoming vehicle. He died on the spot and his remains was flown back to Kano, his hometown and has been buried. RIP!

However, after almost 30 years working as a marital therapist, I’ve become convinced that, while men don’t have enough friends or emotional support, women can have far too many and too much.In fact, my heart sinks when a new female client tells me her ‘friends have been wonderful’ because time and time again, while she thinks they’ve been helping her save her relationship, they’ve been fanning the flames or even throwing petrol on the fire.
