RIHANNA, COLD PLAY CLOSE 2012 LONDON PARALYPICS

 

Coldplay and Rihanna, joined by Jay Z, brought the 11-day Paralympic Games in London to a rousing end on Sunday night. Nigeria won a total of thirteen medals including six gold medals.

BLAKE LIVELY, RYAN REYNOLDS TIE KNOT

'Gossip Girl' star, Blake Lively, tied the knot with her boyfriend of one year, Hollywood 'Hunk', Ryan Reynolds on Sunday. The couple met while filming the superhero movie, 'Green Lantern' in 2011. Lively, 25, and Reynolds, 35, traded “I dos” in front of friends and loved ones at the Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.

This is Blake Lively's first marriage and the second for Ryan who was married to actress Scarlett Johansson for two years.They split in 2010.

All this Hollywood marriage hen. I hope they last. Congrats to them.

LAGOS ROBERRY ATTACKS: ROBBERS WERE IN POSESSION OF POLICE WALKIE TALKIE- CP

While giving his account of the robbery that took place in Lagos yesterday, the Commissioner of Police said "the police were on their trail looking out for them but police lost control of their whereabouts because the robbers were in possession of police walkie-talkie and were intercepting police conversations."

How the hell did they get hold of a police walkie-talkie?

CBN: BANK CUSTOMERS CAN REJECT N5,000

The Central Bank of Nigeria has said that it  will be  illegal for banks to compel their customers to accept the  N5000 note when it comes into existence, customers could reject N5000 note from banks. This comes as a response to the allegations that it was forcing the new structure of the naira on Nigerians.

The Deputy Governor (Operations)of the apex bank, Mr Tunde Lemo,  told Channels Television on Saturday;
 “I say this with all sense of responsibility as the deputy governor of the central bank that we shall ensure that no bank imposes N5000 on anybody who does not want it. Every Nigerian has the prerogative of the currency he or she wants to have. You can go to your bank and say, you don’t need N5000 note. You can say ‘give me  N500, N200 and N100. It will be illegal for that bank to say you must have N5000.
“We did not say take or leave it.  If you don’t need it, you don’t need to ask for it.  We are not saying people will be compelled to take the N5000 note.”

The Nigerian Bar Association has insisted that it would take the apex bank to court if it went ahead to introduce the N5000 denomination.

PATIENCE JONATHAN EXPECTED BACK BEFORE THE END OF SEPTEMBER

Patience Jonathan is expected back in the country before the end of September ahead of Nigeria’s 52nd Independence anniversary. There's been speculation about the first lady's whereabouts, while some media section say she has been  hospitalized at the Horst Schmidt Klinik in Wiesbaden, Germany for food poisoning, others say she underwent surgery for appendicitis. 

Her media aides insisted that she only travelled abroad to rest after the stress involved in the hosting of the African First Ladies’ Conference in Abuja. 

While there is no specific date for her return, it is believed that the first lady will return before the finale of activities marking the celebration of this year’s Independence anniversary on October 1 is concluded.

SERENA WILLIAMS WINS U.S OPEN

Serena Williams has won her 15th grand slam title and win the U.S. Open for the fourth time with a 6-2 2-6 7-5 victory over world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka on Sunday.

She said after her win "I honestly can't believe I won. I was preparing my runner-up speech because she was playing so well, I'm so shocked. It's remarkable.". The match lasted two hours 18 minutes.

It was the first time since 2002 that a woman has won Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in the same year, when Williams also won the French Open.

Congrats to her.

UNIBEN STUDENT KILLED BY SUSPECTED CULTISTS

A 23 year old UNIBEN student, Daniel Ike, was shot dead on friday night, September 7 at Vincente Hostel, Ecosodin. He was a final year student of Chemical Engineering. Daniel, also known as "Afro Dan" went to the hostel to see  a female friend and was attacked by unknown men who shot him in the face.He didn't survive the attack. He had only 20 days left to graduate from the school. 

The reason for the attack is unknown as his friends say he was not a cultist.

Really really sad. May he RIP.

ARMED ROBBERS HOLD MULTIPLE ATTACKS IN LAGOS, KILL 3 POLICEMEN, 1 CIVILIAN

Armed robbers, about 12 of them, yesterday unleashed terror in different parts of Lagos killing 3 policemen and a commercial bus driver. One of the policemen and the driver, who were killed at the PWD area of Ikeja, were in a commercial bus while the two other policemen, who were in a patrol van, were killed on Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja. The armed robbers, believed to be the same gang that robbed in Ikeja, also robbed in Gbagada later in the day, injuring several others, including a one year old baby identified as Taiye.

NIGERIANS SPEND N160B ANNUALLY ON EDUCATION IN GHANA

According to the Chairman, Committee of Pro-chancellors of Nigeria, Dr. Wale Babalakin, there is high cash flight of about N160bn from Nigeria to Ghana annually as the cost of university education of about 75,000 Nigerian students schooling in Ghana. 

He stated that Nigeria’s budget for education in 2011 was not up to N160bn indicating that Nigerians spent more in Ghanaian universities in 2011 than the Federal Government spent on education the same year.

And you wonder why that is?

 During the wedding rehearsal, the groom approached the pastor with an unusual offer:

"Look, I'll give you $100 if you'll change the wedding vows. When you get to the part where I'm supposed to promise to 'love, honor and obey' and 'be faithful to her forever,' I'd appreciate it if you'd just leave that out."

He passed the minister a $100 bill and walked away satisfied.

On the day of the wedding, when it came time for the groom's vows, the pastor looked the young man in the eye and said: "Will you promise to prostrate yourself before her, obey her every command and wish, serve her breakfast in bed every morning of your life, and swear eternally before God and your lovely wife that you will not ever even look at another woman, as long as you both shall live?"

The groom gulped and looked around, and said in a tiny voice, "Yes," then leaned toward the pastor and hissed: "I thought we had a deal."

The pastor put a $100 bill into the groom's hand and whispered: "She made me a better offer."

CYNTHIA OSOKOGU'S BURIAL POSTPONED

The burial of Cynthia Osokogu who was murdered in a hotel at Festac, Lagos on July 22 by alleged Facebook friends, was scheduled to be on Friday but was postponed. The postponement was necessitated by the advice of security agencies and medical experts in order not to leave anyone in doubt as to the culpability of those accused in her murder.

Her father, Maj.-Gen. Frank Osokogu (rtd.), said "the interment ceremony will continue as planned so that when the body is released to us, we won’t go over it again".

The burial was to hold at the residence of  the late Cynthia’s father on Owa-Ekei Road, Boji Boji Owa in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State. The Governor of the state paid a condolence visit to the family on Friday.
