I have naturally long nails and really hate to fix my nails, but the problem is, my nail polish doesn't last half as much as it does on false nails. If I get the polish on my natural nails to last as long as 2 days without chipping with all the house chores I have to do, I jump up for joy. But who has time to be removing chipped nail polish and putting on a new one every two days. Not me! I end up going weeks without any nail polish, sad huh?
So I did some research and found out that the natural oils from the surface of our nails is what causes the polish to chip off. So I found some easy-to-do tricks to beat this and make my nail polish last way longer;
continue after the cut...
1. Before applying your nail polish, dip your nails in vinegar (white or apple cider) for a few minutes, and allow them to dry. Then, paint as usual. Vinegar removes the natural oils from the surface of your nails, so that the polish sticks to your nails (and not the oils).
2. Another method is to use lemon juice. Squeeze lemon juice in to small bowl where you can dip
your nails in. The amount of juice should be
enough to cover your finger nails. Leave your
finger nails in it for about 8 to 10 minutes. This process will
remove the natural oils on your nails.
3. You can also try lightly buffing your nails, just enough to take off the shine before applying the polish. Then while polishing, polish the tip of the nail as well. This will prevent water and dirt from seeping in and chipping the polish.
Pls try these and share your experience. Good luck ladies.
Will definitely be trying this. Tired of fixing my nails. Thanks for this post.
ReplyDeleteBut won't removing the natural oils have an adverse effect in the long run???
ReplyDeleteHi Nekosi, thanks for being a loyal reader and commenter. To answer you question;
ReplyDeleteNo,lemon acts as an astringent and soaking your fingers and nails in lemon water/juice for few minutes even removes yellowness and stains resulting from liver, kidney disorder, smoking or constant use of nail polish. The treatment is totally safe and free from all kinds of side effects. It even helps to condition the nails.
Vinegar also kills fungus, so no side effects.
O!Ok, thanks a lot.
