The Joint Task Force in Maiduguri today responded to a bomb blast targeted at an army patrol by first harassing residents, whipping them and later going on a shooting spree, setting homes and shops on fire, killing about 30 people. One of the residents said, “soldiers came into the neighborhood and started attacking
people, shooting everybody in sight.”
The blast early this morning that targeted an army patrol vehicle in the
city injured two soldiers said the military spokesman in the area, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa. The military has recently been accused of using brutal tactics when responding to attacks on their personnel. When asked about these latest allegations, Musa said, “I don’t have any comment.”
When those that are meant to be protecting innocent citizens turn on those they ought to protect, then God help us all.
