Organisers of Miss Wrld beauty pageant have confirmed
that the 137 women competing in the event, which will be held in Bali
this year, will not be wearing the usual bikini during the beach wear section of the competition. Sorry guys.
The contestants are being asked to cover up in the swimsuit section, so as not to offend Muslims in Indonesia. The ladies will wear more conservative beachwear such modest one pieces, accessorised with traditional sarongs and hats for the beach fashion section.
A prominent Muslim cleric, Mukri Aji, said, “that contest
is just an excuse to show women’s body parts that should remain
covered.”
The Miss World Organisation
chairwoman Julia Morely said: "I don't want to upset or get anyone in a
situation where we are being disrespectful. We treasure respect for all the countries that take part in the pageant. I
did make sure to conform to the rules in Indonesia, which I thought
were perfectly reasonable rules. “I’m working with 137
countries, and all of them have different rules.”
