3 STUDENTS CONFIRMED DEAD IN UNIUYO RIOT

3 students have been killed in a riot that took place in University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, today. The Engineering students of University of Uyo went for a peaceful demonstration in the office of the Vice Chancellor in other to address issues about the sudden changes made by the V.C concerning their transportation from Uniuyo Main Campus to Uniuyo Permanent Site. The Vice Chancellor decided that students who want to board the school bus from Main camp to Permanent site for lectures had to pay daily.

As a result the Engineering students of the university lead a peaceful demonstration to the V.C's Office to lay their complains about the sudden change. On arrival the security officials at the V.C's office tried to stop the students from gaining access to the Vice Chancellor, the students therefore retaliated by throwing stones at the security officials.

The security officials called for back-up, turning a peaceful protest into a riot. The police who were supposed to come and calm the situation fired shots at the students and killed three innocent students. The students on the other hand set the office of the V.C on fire and also destroyed other school properties. Why are students being killed by police in the name of restoring peace and quite? This is getting out of hand.

  1. The Nigerian Police' Answer to everything is 'shoot to disperse'.
Why would you shoot at Students.... STUDENTS!!! As tho they are robbers or worse... It's just sad that the government hasn't deemed it necessary to invest in the training of the police.
That V.C should be persecuted. Lucky for him that he wasn't in the building when it was razed.
