POLICE BEG FAMILY OF SLAIN AKWA IBOM GIRL FOR SETTLEMENT

Late Lucy
20-year-old Lucy Ukong is the sales girl who was working at a photography shop in Apo, Abuja when she was hit in the chest by bullets allegedly fired by policemen on illegal duty to enforce the order on demolition of illegal structures by officials of development control department on October 12. If you missed it, read it  HERE.

The police are now pleading with the family of Lucy to drop the case and settle the matter amicably but the family were considering settling the matter through judicial process or payment of compensation by the police. The family is yet to take a position on the matter, they want to bury the girl first before taking a stand on the next point of action. Some members of the  family want the police to pay compensation for killing the girl, but the police have not made any offer.

Arrangements have been concluded to collect Lucy’s remains from Garki Hospital on Friday (today) for burial in Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.

This shouldn't be about settlement, those who committed this heinous crime should be made to pay dearly for it. They should be prosecuted accordingly to serve as a deterrent to other unscrupulous policemen.
