BEYONCE AND JAY Z LOSE BATTLE TO TRADEMARK BLUE IVY'S NAME

The hip-hop power couple Jay Z and Beyonce have lost the legal battle to trademark the name of their daughter, "Blue Ivy" this past weekend. Jay and Bey initially tried to trademark the name in January, shortly after daughter Blue Ivy's birth because Beyonce hoped to one day start a line of children's clothing, dolls, and cofee mugs in her baby's name and they didn't want any competition or anyone benefiting financially off their kid’s name.

However, a wedding planner, Veronica Alexandra, owner of Blue Ivy Events planning ,who had the name before Beyonce and Jay Z thought of it, worried that the entertainment titans would affect her business if they succeeded in patenting the Blue Ivy name. So Alexander filed her own trademark application and luckily for her, the NY patent office sided with her because she had the name since 2009. Alexandra, however, said business has really improved since Jay and Bey named their baby Blue Ivy.
