WORKERS IN AKWA IBOM DESERT OFFICES OVER PHANTOM HOLIDAY

A lot of  public offices in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State were empty on Monday, as workers stayed away to observe a perceived holiday as part of celebrations of the state’s Silver Jubilee The workers stayed  away from work thinking that Monday had been declared public holiday.

The state usually observes 23rd September of every year, its anniversary, as public holiday. Since this year’s fell on a weekend, the workers took the liberty to observe Monday as holiday, even though the information department of the state issue no statement in that regard. 

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Aniekan Umanah,  said “I am surprised to hear that workers are not in their offices because of public holiday, when there is no official statement to that effect,” he said.As information from Umanah spread , public service workers were seen rushing to work in the late morning.
