Iranian paralympian, Mehrdad Karam Zadeh, refused to shake hands with Kate Middleton at a medal ceremony because the country's customs forbid a man from shaking the hand of a woman who is not related.
He put his hands to his chest and bowed instead, as he is not permitted to touch the hand of a woman who is not a relative. Kate was reportedly not shaken, but rather happy to accept his wishes. She had been informed of his cultural and religious restrictions ahead of time.
