DAVID BECKHAM RETIRES FROM FOOTBALL AT THE AGE OF 38!
Sportsmail revealed today that after 21 years of football career, David Beckham has retired at the age of 38, bringing the curtain down on a glittering career. The
former England captain has played his last
game, bowing out on a high after helping Carlo Ancelotti's side win the
French title for the first time in 19 years.
The midfielder will continue his ambassadorial duties with a variety of organisations, which include Sky Sports, adidas, Unicef and promoting football in China.
Beckham, who has played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and PSG, said in a statement:
'I'm thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level. If you had told me as a young boy I would have played for and won trophies with my boyhood club Manchester United, proudly captained and played for my country over one hundred times and lined up for some of the biggest clubs in the world, I would have told you it was a fantasy. I'm fortunate to have realised those dreams.'
The father of four has an estimated £165million fortune, making him the richest athlete ever in Britain sports.

PRESIDENT JONATHAN FINALLY DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY IN BORNO, YOBE AND ADAMAWA + READ FULL TEXT
Our president has finally taken the step he should have taken a long time ago, a step that would have spared a lot of lives that have been lost. President Jonathan has declared an indefinite state of emergency in
three Northern states, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe, citing insecurity. He
made the announcement in a nationwide live broadcast yesterday evening. Read the full text of his speech below;
Dear compatriots,
1. It has become necessary for me to address you on the recent spate of terrorist activities and protracted security challenges in some parts of the country, particularly in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Plateau and most recently Bayelsa, Taraba, Benue and Nasarawa states. These unfortunate events have led to needless loss of lives and property of many innocent Nigerians including members of our security forces.
2. The recent killing of security operatives by a cult group in Nasarawa state is particularly condemnable. I have directed that no effort or expense be spared in identifying and bringing to justice all those who had a hand in the killing of the operatives.
