COCANE DISCOVERED IN 53 YEAR OLD WOMAN'S HAIR

A 53-year-old grandmother, Sikirat Giwa, was been arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja while trying to smuggle out cocaine under her hair weave. Giwa was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Saturday with 1kg of white powdery, which later tested positive to cocaine.

The suspect was apprehended while trying to board an Ethiopian airline Flight ET 910 to Pakistan enroute Addis Ababa and Dubai.

Josephine Odumakin, Nigerian human rights activist, recently received the 2013 International Woman of Courage Award and the award was presented to her by the first lady of America, Michelle Obama. Josephine has handled over 2,000 cases of violations of women's rights in the past 20years, which included cases of extra judicial practices committed by government security agencies against women. Her advocacy led her to be arrested and detained seventeen times during the dictatorship of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida’s regime.

Dr. Odumakin is currently the Executive Director of the Institute of Human Rights and Democratic Studies; President of Women Arise for Change Initiative; Chairman, Task Force of the Citizen Forum; Spokesperson, Coalition of Civil Society Organizations; and President, Centre for Participatory Democracy. 8 YEAR-OLD BOY MARRIES A 61 YEAR-OLD WOMAN

 

Over the weekend, an eight year-old school boy Sanele Masilela tied the knot with 61 year-old Helen Shabangu, who is already married and a mother of five. According to the boy, he married the woman because the ghost of his dead ancestor told him to. He married Helen in accordance with the wishes of his dead ancestors, and his family provided Helen with £500 and paid a further £1,000 for the celebration.

BABY SHOT BY ARMED ROBBERS IN LAGOS DIES 6 MONTHS AFTER

Taiwo Lawal is the one-year-old boy who was shot during a series of robbery attacks in Lagos on September 9, 2012 (if you missed it, read it HERE and HERE). Taiwo was hit in the head by a stray bullet in front of his parents home in Gbagada during the robbery attack and after seven months of battling with complications from the gunshot  wound, sadly, he died on March 7, 2013 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba.

After the incident, his parents asked for financial donations from Nigerians for Taiwo’s treatment and MTN donated N500,000 and some members of the public also donated undisclosed sums of money.

The deceased’s distraught father, Wasiu, said the death was more painful because of the amount of money the family had spent.
