PREGNANT UK SOLDIER GIVES BIRTH ON THE FRONTLINE

A Fijian-British servicewoman has given birth to a baby boy, five weeks premature, on the front line while serving as a gunner in the Royal Artillery in Afghanistan. The woman- the first UK soldier to have a baby on the battlefield- did not know she was pregnant and was astonished when she reported to medics for stomach pains only to be told that she was about to give birth. She gave birth on 18 September. The birth took place in the Camp Bastion field hospital just days after the Taliban launched a deadly attack on the UK's main base in Helmand.

EXCITED APPLE FANS QUEUE FOR A WEEK TO GET THEIR HANDS ON THE UPDATED iPHONE 5













After keeping vigil and queuing  for days outside Apple stores around the world, Apple fans were finally able to buy the much awaited iPhone 5. In London, Ryan Williams, 22, an IT Business man was the first on the queue and had been on the queue for a week. Some customers were prepared to sell their place on the queue for four-figure sums while some immediately resold their purchase to others on the queue.

MIKEL OBI DELETES TWITTER ACCOUNT OVER RACIST COMMENTS

Mikel Obi has deleted his Twitter account following racist comments posted by upset Chelsea fans. After his most recent game with his club Chelsea against Juventus, the midfielder was attacked on Twitter for ‘costing’ his team the game.
Although the game ended in a 2-2 draw, Chelsea fans blamed the 25-year-old for giving the ball away just ten minutes before time and also not preventing the equalizing goal. After much pressure, the Super Eagles player deleted his account.

In a swift reaction, Chelsea FC released a statement concerning the racist tweets and stated the London Police have been duly informed.
We’ve been made aware of racist tweets targeted at Mikel which are totally unacceptable, disgusting and abhorrent. We’ve informed the police and support taking the strongest possible action’, the statement read.

ARIK SUSPENDS DOMESTIC FLIGHTS, PASSENGERS STRANDED

Arik Air yesterday suspended its domestic flights after aviation unions disrupted activities at the airport leaving hundreds of local passengers stranded at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. The  unions decided to ground the operations of Arik over alleged failure to pay service charges it owed government agencies such as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria; Nigerian Airspace Management Agency; and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

However, a statement by the airline quoted the Managing Director, Mr. Chris Ndulue, as denying the allegations.

JONATHAN ORDERS SANUSI TO SUSPEND INTRODUCTION OF SINGLE N5,000 NOTE

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday has directed the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, to suspend the planned introduction of N5,000 note based on the need for "enlightenment and consultation". The Special Adviser to the President on Media, Dr. Reuben Abati, disclosed the development to State House correspondents in Abuja.

The Central Bank of Nigeria, in a statement on Thursday, has confirmed that it had received a presidential directive to stop action on the currency restructuring plan.The statement by the apex bank’s spokesperson, Ugo Okoroafor, reads;

 “The CBN hereby informs the general public that the President, on Thursday, September 20, 2012, directed that further action on the approved restructuring exercise be stopped".

For once the voice of Nigerians prevailed!
